The exhibition:
Flight across borders as the only means of escaping dire poverty. Borders that can only be crossed with special military permits. Xenophobic slogans on the other side that stamp immigrants as undesirables. Traces of illegal escape routes. These are only a few of the issues addressed in the photo exhibition, "Borders and Beyond". Ten reports by photographers from several countries and continents present deeply moving images of people and borders, of infringement, expulsion and discrimination.
It calls upon all of us to open our eyes and transcend borders.

The book contains a broad selection of pictures from the exhibition with commentaries by the photographers. It also includes five essays, written especially for this project by renowned contributors to the truly global Berlin journal, Lettre International.
